Salem — Kay (Claybaugh) Beatty, 78, of Salem, passed away June 22, at the Bertram House in Swampscott. She was the wife of the late Robert McCutcheon Beatty.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Kay was the daughter of the late Martin Claybaugh and Ruby Bernot. Kay lived in Cleveland most of her life and was a graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts in drama. She was a thespian at the Cain Park Theater in Cleveland Heights and The Cleveland Playhouse. Kay and her husband moved to Salem, Mass., 13 years ago to be close their grandchildren, and could be seen on soccer and lacrosse fields across New England.
Throughout her life, Kay was generous with her time. Kay volunteered for 10 years with The Hawken School Mothers' Committee in Gates Mills, Ohio, and was appointed chairwoman for two years. She volunteered at the North Shore Medical Center, and also volunteered for the Tower School Development Office and Tower School's Grandparents' Committee in Marblehead, Mass.
Kay is survived by two sons, Scott McCutcheon Beatty and his wife, Deborah of Swampscott, and Todd McFarlane Beatty of Marblehead; four grandchildren, Tucker Hamilton Beatty, Elizabeth Grace Beatty, Sara Anne Beatty, and Lauren Gwen Beatty; cousins, Gary and Lisa Olsen of Minnesota; and nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are private and are under the direction of the Berube & Sons Funeral Home of Salem.
