Mary (Comenos) Gouzoules


Danvers — Mary (Comenos) Gouzoules, age 99, of Danvers, formerly of Peabody, died Tuesday in the Kaplan Family Hospice House after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Christopher Gouzoules. She was born in Lynn to John and Kalliope (Lymberogianes) Comenos. She and her six siblings were raised by Helen Comenos, who married her father after her mother’s death to care for them. She was raised in Lynn and lived in Peabody for many years.

Mary worked in technical operations for General Electric for 35 years until her retirement in 1975. She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn. Mary was a strong proponent of education, and truly believed that everyone should have an education. She also loved children and had a passion for gardening.

She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Laskaris and her husband, Ted, of Danvers; two granddaughters, Leslie Barlow and her husband, David, of Byfield and Kristen Laskaris of California; three adored great-grandchildren, Christopher, Ashley and Teddy Barlow; her sister, Kay Kirios of Lynn; as well as many close nieces and nephews including her beloved niece, Elena Kirios, who was always there to care for her and make her day a little happier. She was the sister of the late Louis, George and Charles Comenos, Rena Melahoures and Betty Andrews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. from the Solimine Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St., (Route 1A), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Service in St. George Greek Orthodox Church at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
