Seabrook, NH — Joseph L. Karonis, Jr., 85, of Seabrook, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the Merrimack Valley Health Center in Amesbury, Mass., with loving family at his side.
He was born November 18, 1928, in Danvers, Mass., the son of the late Joseph L. and Margaret M. (O'Brien) Karonis Sr.
Joe was raised in Danvers and was a 1947 graduate of Holten High School. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. After the Army, Joseph worked 23 years for the Town of Danvers Water Department and then taught science for eight years at Essex Agricultural Institute in Danvers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a member of the Raymond E. Walton American Legion Post 70 in Seabrook. He and his wife, Annette moved to Seabrook in 1999 after falling in love with the seacoast while camping.
In addition to his wife of over 60 years, Annette (Proulx) Karonis, he is survived by his sons, John and his wife, Deborah of Wilmington, Mass., Paul and his wife, Cynthia of Pfafftown, N.C., and Daniel and his wife, Linda of Vacaville, Calif.; his daughter, Mary Dowdell and her husband, Peter of Beverly, Mass.; his eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Tarr and her husband, Frank.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Rd., Hampton, NH. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
