Portugal — Matilda (Santos) Pereira passed away surrounded by her family, at a local hospital in Portugal, on September 16, 2012. She was 86 years of age. Matilda was born and raised in Portugal and came to the United States in November of 1967. Mrs. Pereira was a homemaker for over 40 years and had worked at the Cartwright Leather factory in Peabody as a leather trimmer for several years. She lived in Peabody for many years before returning to Portugal in 2011, to live out the remainder of her life in her home country. Matilda was the loving wife of Alberto Pereira. Devoted mother of Leonardo, Joseph and Manuel Pereira, all of Portugal, Horracio, Gilbert and Edwino Pereira all of Peabody, Maria L. Branco of Middleton, Durvalina Cerqueia of Maine, Debbie Goodwin of Lowell and Herodino Pereira of Boston. Also survived by 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody, on Saturday, October 6 at 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
