Beverly — James A. “Jim” Wells, 67, died on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by his family. Born in Troy, N.Y., he was the son of the late Albert and Margaret (Bouchard) Wells. He received his education in the Beverly School System and graduated from Beverly High School, Class of 1964. He continued his education earning a business degree from Merrimack College. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the United States Army, and as a longtime member of the Massachusetts and California National Guard, achieving the rank of Major. Mr. Wells had been employed by the MBTA, the City of Culver City, Calif., and Federal Express in managerial roles, and at the time of his retirement, he worked for American Eagle Airlines.
He is survived by a son, Patrick Wells of Beverly; a daughter, Lisa Irwin and her husband, Bruce, of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; five grandchildren, Nick, Courtney, Erika, Henry, and Emma; and five sisters, Mary Papapetros of Latham, N.Y., Anne Baldwin and her husband, Randy, of Phoenix, Ariz., Judy Davis and her husband, Elliot, of Highland Mills, N.Y., Kathy Buff and her husband, Joseph, of Guilderland, N.Y., Peggy O'Keeffe and her husband, Ray, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; two aunts, Eleanor Hill of Berne, N.Y., and Madeline Sapone of Schuylerville, N.Y.; three cousins, Mary Hill, Nicole Sapone and Matthew Sapone; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John Wells. He is also survived by his former wife, Ann (Quigley) Wells.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Wednesday, April 23, at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell-Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, North Beverly, on Wednesday, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., prior to the Mass. Burial will be in Central Cemetary, Beverly.
