Andrew Harmatiuk, 88


Beverly — Andrew “Andy” Harmatiuk, 88, passed peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, in Beverly, MA. Born in Newark, NJ, Andy was a lifelong resident of NJ, only moving to Massachusetts to be near family in 2003. Andy served in the Army Air Corps during WWII at an airbase in Snyder, TX, training other pilots. He met the love of his life, June Heiskill in TX. They married in 1947 and were married for 64 years. Andy was hired by United Airlines in 1952 and relocated to NJ in 1954. He was predeceased by his wife and is survived by daughter Vickie Cataldo from Essex, MA, and Karen Gumaer from Campbell, CA. He is also survived by sons-in-law Michael Cataldo, Peter Gumaer, and five grandchildren: Alyssa Miller of Essex, Andrew Cataldo of Talent, OR, & Emily, Alison & Nicholas of Campbell, CA. He also leaves a niece Halina Okla of Morristown, NJ, and nephew Jim Crossan of Oak Ridge, NJ.

Andy flew for United Airlines for 32 years, which was his main passion. After retirement, he volunteered at Morristown Memorial Hospital in NJ for 15 years, earning over 10,000 hours of volunteer time. He was also passionate about skiing, building electronics, golf and spending time with family. He is missed.
