Constance A. Silva, 93

PEABODY — Constance "Connie" Ann (Zevolo) Silva, 93, of Peabody, passed away on Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 after a brief illness.

She was born on Feb. 24, 1917 in Boston. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfred F. and her loving son, Alfred F. Jr. She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Maryanne and Gerald Dechayne; a dear sister, Phyllis Rubino; her loyal daughter-in-law, Margaret Ann (Collette) Silva; her cherished grandchildren, Chris Silva, Lauren Dechayne-Donati and her husband Michael Donati, Derek Silva and his wife Patti, and Cheryl Ahlquist and her husband Diron; and her precious great-granddaughters, Katelyn, Allison, Rachel and Nicole. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and wonderful neighbors and friends.

Connie grew up in East Boston, spent several years in Winthrop and moved to Peabody in 1970. She was married for 53 years and lived her life devoted to her family. While in East Boston and Winthrop, she managed the Sacred Heart High School cafeteria. While in Peabody, she worked for the North Shore Elder Services for many years as a friendly visitor and companion for the elderly. People she met looked forward to seeing her again. Most recently she volunteered at the Peabody Council on Aging.

Every holiday she could be counted on to make her delicious lasagna and three homemade pies. One of her other favorite hobbies was to knit and crochet beautiful afghans and slippers for her family. She created many precious and funny lasting memories with her family.

ARRANGEMENTS: The family will receive friends at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 from 4 until 8 p.m. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 at 10 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Adelaide's Church, 708 Lowell St., West Peabody at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Portsmouth in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged.

    John also known as “Linky” was born in Salem on August 31, 1954, son of Grace M. (Pasquale) Boylan and the late John R. Boylan. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School in 1972. He attended Wentworth Institute in Boston for 2 years where he excelled at welding and was a lifelong resident of Peabody.

    Kenneth M. Doig, 80, died Thursday, February 2, 2012 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Jean R. (Foster) Doig.

    Born in Chelsea on June 9, 1931, he was the son of the late George P. and Margaret M. (McLennon) Doig. He had resided in Everett for many years before moving to Beverly in 1958. He was a graduate of Everett High School class of 1949, where he was a captain of the football team and was a Boston Globe All Scholastic. He was also a member of the state championship baseball team. While attending the University of New Hampshire, Ken played tackle on the last undefeated and untied 1950 football team.

    Born in Piermont, N.H., on August 31, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Albion and Addie (Davis) Smith. Ruth had been a Danvers resident since 1947 and a past member of the Maple Street Congregational Church in Danvers. She had been employed at the former Snyder’s Jewelry Store in Danvers Square and Almy’s Department Store in the Danvers Plaza. Ruth most recently worked at CVS also in the Danvers Plaza, where she retired at age 82.

    Born in Springfield, Mass., Mrs. Barber was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Bertha (Smith) Leach. She was a 9th generation descendant of Lawrence Leach, who came to Salem in 1629 from Martok, Somersetshire, England; also 9th of George Aldrich, who came to Massachusetts in 1631 from Derbyshire, England.

    Debra E. Varadi, 58, died on Feb. 2, 2012 in Beverly Hospital. She was the fiancée of Tom Moran of Merrimack, NH.

    Born in Salem on Dec. 31, 1953, she was the daughter of Louis E. Varadi and the late Marie (Lenahan) Varadi. She graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School in 1971 and went on to earn her associate's degree in Culinary Arts from NSCC. Debra loved learning and with her quest for knowledge she attended many schools such as Butera Art School and Wentworth Institute in Boston, Montserrat College in Beverly, and she was most recently enrolled at North Shore Community College, where she studied criminal justice and was a member of Sigma Alpha Pi Leadership Honor Society. Debra was an award winning member of the Danvers Garden Club, a member of the Moose Lodge in Peabody, an avid dancer and loved the beach.

    HELEN L. CUNNINGHAM, 95, of Peabody, wife of the late Arthur Cunningham, died January 31, 2012, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a short illness.

    She worked for 10 years at Transitron Electronics and 7 years for the Lynn school system. Helen was a parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church in Peabody. She was active at the Central Street Housing for the Aged and involved in many clubs and activities. Helen was predeceased by one brother and three sisters. She was a sweet and gentle spirit who loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

    Bernard Charles Esancy, 96, of Raymond NH, formerly of Peabody, husband of the late Corinne (Jordan) Esancy, died on Sunday at the Exeter Hospital in NH while surrounded by his family.

    Mr. Esancy was born in Union, Maine son of Burleigh and Gertrude (Wentworth) Esancy. He was raised in Union, ME and graduated from Union High School. In 1943, he enlisted into the Army and served with the 9th Army Division as a bridge engineer until receiving his honorable discharge in 1945. He later went to school in Boston to become a refrigeration mechanic. In 1952, he moved his family to Peabody where he resided until moving to Raymond, NH in 2002.

    Marguerite T. (Williams) Martini, 87, of Danvers, died on January 31, 2012 in Haverhill. Daughter of Henry and Anna Williams. Marguerite graduated from Salem High School in Salem MA., Class of 1941. She went on to graduate from Salem State College with a BS degree in education in 1945 and later studied at Boston University Graduate School. Mrs. Martini taught in the Portsmouth NH School system 1945–1947 and taught business at Hamilton HS 1947-1950. She also was involved with coaching (3) sports. Marguerite was a communicant of St. Mary’s Annunciation Church in Danvers, where she did ministry work, volunteered with the Holy rollers and was a member of the sodality of St Mary’s Church. A past member of the AAUW and the North Shore Players Woman’s Association. She was the wife of her late husband Carl Martini and mother of the late Michael Martini. She is survived by her daughter Judith Cunningham wife of Gene Cunningham. Daughter-in-law Doreen Martini and 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her 3 loving children, Danny, Nicky and Sarah, daughter-in-law, Karen Gallagher, 2 grandchildren, Larry and Colleen, and 3 great-grandchildren, Emma, Keegan, and Savannah. The father of her children was the late Professor Carlo R. Francois, of Wellesley College. Her dear friend and political cohort, David Rooks, resides in Maui with his partner Jim Oxborrow. She was an extraordinary woman, loved by many coast to coast.

  • Police identify crash victim DANVERS — One man is alive and in stable condition, while the mother of his close friend got word yesterday of her son's death in a violent crash on Route 128 Sunday just prior to 8 p.m.
    Reginaldo Dasilva Souza, the driver and a Peabody resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a preliminary investigation by state police, including Trooper Robert Noonan, Souza's 1999 Honda veered across two lanes, struck a Jersey barrier, continued onto a ramp to Route 35, then left the roadway only to strike two more barriers.
