Peabody — Helen M. (Pierga) Lefas, 89, of Peabody, wife of the late Anthony J. Lefas, died on Thursday, July 4, 2103, with her family by her side at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers.
Helen was born in Salem on February 25, 1924, and was the daughter of the late William and Stella (Nowak) Pierga. She was raised in Salem and graduated from Salem High School in 1942. In 1958, Helen and her husband, Anthony, moved to Peabody.
Helen was employed for 15 years as a bobbin fixer at the Pequot Steam Cotton Co. in Salem until its closing. She was a loving mother, who dedicated her life to creating a home for her children, and later, she was so proud of her two grandchildren and her great-grandson. She enjoyed going on family picnics at the Salem Willows, baking, and playing beano.
Helen is survived by her two sons, John A. Lefas of Winthrop, and William M. Lefas of Danvers; her grandchildren, Lucinda Best and her husband, Scott, and Josef Lefas; her great-grandson, Elijah Best; a brother, Leo Pierga of Salem; two sisters, Sophie Ambrese of Beverly, and Regina Jackimowicz of Medford; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Frederick Pierga, Boley Pierga and Alice Burda.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 9, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., downtown location next to Peabody City Hall, Peabody. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church, 28 St. Peter St., Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made in Helen’s name to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215. Burial will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem.
