SALEM — Myrtle E. (Nelson) Jackson, 79, beloved wife of Arthur E. Jackson, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage, passed away Wednesday, July 10, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by her family. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary (Trefry) Nelson.
Myrt was a lifelong resident of Salem and a graduate of Salem High School. She worked for the City of Salem School Department and in the mail room at Danvers State Hospital. She was a former member of Danvers Fish and Game and was proud to be a CNA. Myrt volunteered her time with local politics and worked the polls. She was an honorary member of the DAV Chapter 84 in Salem. She also enjoyed spending time camping in New Hampshire with her husband and being with her beloved Yorkies, Buddy and Peanut.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Doreen Jefferson of Salem, Janis Jefferson of Beverly and Ron Jefferson and his wife, Judy, of Naples, Fla.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings, Sheldon, Earl, Bobby, Harold, Gladys, Donald and Edna.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held at the Campbell-Lee, Moody Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly, (North Beverly location), on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Wenham Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Myrtle’s memory to Grace Church, 385 Essex St., Salem, MA 01970.
