Mr. James H. Carpenter, 74


Salem, N.H., formerly of Lawrence and Wenham — Mr. James H. Carpenter, a resident of Salem, N.H., formerly of Lawrence and Wenham, died at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, on January 21, 2014. He was 74 years old.

Born in Beverly, Mass., on July 21, 1939, he was the beloved son of the late John H. Carpenter and Mildred (Tirrell) Davis. Mr. Carpenter was a graduate of Lawrence High School. He was the owner and operator of Lawrence Cycle Center, where he built custom motorcycles, and specialized in choppers and eccentric paint jobs. He also had worked for Reichhold Chemical in Andover, and retired after many years of service. In his spare time, Mr. Carpenter enjoyed riding his motorcycles and building model airplanes. He was the designer of the "Yankee Nipper," and an avid member of several model airplane clubs.

He is survived by his daughters, Mary Ellen Giordano of Burlington, and Deborah Jean Carpenter-Wallace and her husband, Christopher Wallace of Cleburne, Texas; and grandsons, Garret and Quinn Wallace.
