Matthew Smith, 45, of Boston, formerly of Stoneham, entered into eternal peace on March 8, 2012, with his loving wife Megan (Condron) at his side. Matt succumbed to a valiant and courageous two and one half year battle with melanoma. Besides his adoring wife of almost three years, Matt was a devoted and loving father to his cherished son, Shane Smith of Stoneham. In addition, Matt leaves his mother, Maureen Smith-Mello of Peabody, his father, Donald Smith of Stoneham, his sister Melanie Smith of Folly Beach, SC, his in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, three nieces, four nephews and countless friends. Matt touched numerous lives; he will be missed by many.
Matt was a wonderful and caring person, but most of all a marvelous father to his treasured son Shane. Being an excellent dad was the most important thing in Matt’s short life. Matt was a member of the Danvers Fire Department, retiring in 2011 after his illness became too much to perform his duties. Matt was also a very well respected NCAA Hockey Official, refereeing at Bean Pots and Frozen Fours.
