Peabody, Ma — Arthur W. “Artie” Cole, 90, of Peabody, died on Sunday December 1, 2013, peacefully at home, while surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Charles V. and Mina (Marshall) Cole, and he was the loving husband of the late Elinor F. “Ellie” (Morgan) Cole, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Lynn, Artie had resided in Peabody since 1955. A graduate of the Lynn Industrial Arts School in Lynn, Artie worked as a tool and die maker for the General Electric in Lynn, until his retirement in 1985. He was a proud WWII veteran, serving in the 13th Jungle Air Force, 319th Fighter Control Squadron in the Solomon Islands. Artie was a proud member of the Mount Carmel Masonic Lodge, as well as the Shriners Aleppo Temple in Wilmington.
Artie and his wife, Ellie, were very active members of the Peabody Council on Aging, where they organized events and planned various trips. He was an avid golfer until he was 87 years old. He was a member of the Dimex Club, and he also enjoyed CB and Ham Radio Operations.
Artie is survived by his daughter, Judy Murphy and her husband, Jim; his three sons, Artie Cole Jr. and his wife, Lisa, Chuck Cole and his wife, Mary, and Dave Cole and his wife, Kathie; his grandchildren, Jimmy, Sean, Tracy, Artie, Chelsea, Deena, Leah, Chaz, Kerri, Ashley, Jessica, Kristi, and Dylan; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Richie Cole, and was also predeceased by his two sisters and one brother.
