Flemington, NJ — Arthur W. Edwards Jr., 81, of Raritan Township, N.J., died on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, from pneumonia, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Beverly, Mass., on August 1, 1932, he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Mildred Perkins Edwards.
Arthur's first love was his family, followed closely by his love of teaching. He started teaching at a junior high school in Malden, Mass., then taught high school in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass. He then trained science teachers for 25 happy years at Rutgers/Cook College, N.J.
He received his bachelor's degree and master's degree from Salem College, and another master's degree from Temple University, and his doctorate degree in environmental science education from the University of Massachusetts.
A member of the Mayflower Society, he was also a member of several academic societies including Alpha Tau Alpha and Phi Delta Kappa.
Surviving him is his wife of 55 years, Barbara Kenny Edwards; a daughter, Meridith Novack and her husband, Stephen; two sons, Robert A. Edwards and his wife, Kathleen, and Carleton W. Edwards and his wife, Julie; and seven grandchildren, Kaitlin, Allison, Shannon, Christopher, Kimberly, Sarah, and Nicholas.
Arthur loved a good story and loved to tell them. He rarely ever forgot a joke.

ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6, at 2 p.m., in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, N.J. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington. Calling hours will be on Friday, from 1 to 2 p.m.
