Salem — Dina B (Belo) Soares, age 82, wife of the late Antonio Soares of Salem, died early Thursday morning at home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Portugal, the daughter of the late Antonio and Lucinda Belo, she was raised and educated in Portugal and became a teacher. After several years of teaching, she moved to Peabody. Mrs. Soares loved children and was a well-respected caregiver for many families; she had many kids that she cared for as if they were her grandchildren. Most of all, she enjoyed taking care of her family, cooking and knitting.
She is survived by four children, Gina Silva and her husband, Joaquim of Peabody, Antonio “Tony” Soares and his wife, Maria Soa Jose of Peabody, Judy Soares of Salem and Michelle Rosa and her husband, Mario of Salem; a brother, Orlando Belo of Peabody; her sisters, Zelia, Fatima, Maria do Carmo; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Saul and sister, Francisca.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, (corner of North Street) Salem, to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St, Peabody, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
