Peabody — K. Elinor (Waters) Gustafson, 93, beloved wife of the late Walter Gustafson, died Sunday June 16, at the Pilgrim Rehab & Skilled Nursing Center in Peabody, following a brief illness.
Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Henry B. and Helen (Mulcahy) Waters. She was a graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1936, and a lifelong resident of the city.
Mrs. Gustafson was employed in the cafeteria food service with the City of Peabody Public Schools, retiring in 1981. She later volunteered for 20 years at the J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody, which later became Kindred Hospital.
Elinor was faithfully devoted as an active member of St. Ann’s Church in Peabody. She was a member of the A.O.H. in Peabody, active with the Peabody Council on Aging and the Torigian Life Center, and liked playing cards. She will be dearly missed by her family and those who knew her.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Melissa Gustafson of Peabody; a grandson, Michael Gustafson of Peabody; a sister, Mary Newton of Lynnfield; and many nieces and nephews. The family is grateful for the devotion of her caretakers, Kathy, Jeanne and Bobbi over the past 10 years. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by a son, William Gustafson and sister, Anna Vance.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Thursday June 20, at 9 a.m., from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m., in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
