Robert Otovic Sr., 86

Danvers — Mr. Robert L. Otovic Sr., 86, died peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on June 24, 2013. He was born on June 28, 1926. He was raised in Peabody and educated in the Peabody Public School System. As a child he played the violin and studied under maestro Yassay Shepard in Salem. At the age of 17, he left high school, enlisted into the Navy Armed Guard and entered World War II. He proudly served oversees for three years. Following the war, he returned to Lynn English to receive his GED. He was employed as a clerk of the works and sold real estate. He was a member of the Masonic Temple Amity Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Danvers for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Kent Otovic, his parents, Adolph and Henrietta Otovic, and his brother, Walter Otovic.

"Bob" was a professional candle pin bowler for 20 years. He appeared on television's Candlepins for Cash in Boston's Kenmore Square three times, winning twice. He married Nancy Kimball Kent in 1948 after meeting her one year prior at a Danvers Fourth of July Carnival. They were members of the First Church of Danvers for over 60 years. Together they raised 10 children, Robert L. Jr., Richard, Peter, Janet, Paul, Nancy E., Brian, Elizabeth, Margaret McLaughlin, and William. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends may express their condolences at the fellowship hall located in the lower level of the First Church of Danvers, Congregational, on July 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. A private graveside service will follow. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., Route 62, Danvers.
