Salem — Theodore Tsoutsouras, age 84, husband of Maria (Orditos) Tsoutsouras, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born, raised and educated in Greece, Mr. Tsoutsouras had served as a sergeant private investigator in the Greek Army.
He came to the United States in 1957 and began working in the food industry. In 1958 he started his career as a chef at the family's Salem Diner and in 1982 he became the proud owner and operator of the establishment until his retirement in 2001. He enjoyed having his wife and children working with him and created strong bonds with many of his patrons. A warm and loving man he devoted his time and energy to his family, friends and business.
Most important to him was his wife of 51 years and his two children; son, Peter Tsoutsouras and his wife, Tricia, of Salem, and daughter, Eleni and her husband, Darren Palm, of Salem. Together their families made him the proud grandfather, affectionately known as Papou, to five grandchildren; Lexi, Lola, Peter Jr., Christian and Jack, who he adored and who adored him. Having come from a family of seven siblings he knew and always instilled in his children, the true value of family. He is survived by two brothers, Costas Tsoutsouras and Yanni Tsoutsouras, both of Mavria, Magaloupolaos, Greece and his sister, Amalia Youlafeti of Athens, Greece.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 9 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., corner of North Street, Salem, to be followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem.
