Lauriane P. O'Leary, 68

MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA — Lauriane “Laurie” P. O’Leary, 68, beloved wife of Paul O’Leary, died on Thursday, April 17, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, surrounded by her family. A dedicated mother and wife, Laurie served as a community health advocate and nurse practitioner for 40 years in the Chelsea area.

Born and raised in Syracuse, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Irving and Helen (Rhode) Psyck. She earned her nursing degrees from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing and Boston College, before joining the Mass General Hospital (MGH) Adult Practitioner Program.

She helped in establishing two community health centers in Roxbury/Dorchester, and joined a fledgling MGH Chelsea Health Center in the 1970s.

As one of the earliest nurse practioners, Mrs. O’Leary dedicated herself to the development of the profession and serving the community in 40 years of practice at MGH Chelsea Health Center. In November, she was recognized in a ceremony by the center for her decades of contributions and leadership.

She loved the Boston area, and lived for the opportunity to cheer on the local sports teams.

In addition to her husband, with whom she shared 43 years of loving marriage, she is survived by a son, David O’Leary and his fiancée, Erica Frontiero of Manhattan, N.Y.; a daughter, Karyn O’Leary and her husband, Kuba Szczypiorski of Leesburg, Va.; their two grandchildren, Eliana and Lola; a sister, Geraldine Psyck of Randolph, N.J.; two brothers, Robert Irving Psyck of Pittsbugh, Pa., Kenneth Psyck of Madison, Wis., and their wives and sons.

Family members express their sincere gratitude to the oncology medical care teams in the Yawkey and Lunder buildings, 9th floor, at MGH Boston.
