HAMILTON, SALISBURY — George J. Rioux, Jr., 74, beloved husband of Patricia H. (Stone) Rioux, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage, passed away Tuesday, April 29, at Beverly Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late George H. Sr. and Gladys (Gauthier) Rioux.
George grew up in Beverly and was a graduate of Beverly High School. George began his working career at his family owned business, Essex Country Typewriter of Beverly. As a business professional, George was very active in the Men’s Kiwanis Club. His passion was service, which lead George to become the youngest appointed Deputy at the Essex County Sheriff’s Department. Following the Sheriff’s Department, George was appointed to the Hamilton Police Department, where he worked for over 35 years and retired as the first lieutenant of the Hamilton Police Force. He was also a ranger at the Cranes Beach Trustees of Reservations for over 15 years. Being an avid sportsman, he was in the Ducks Unlimited organization for over 30 years, a member of the Northeaster Agricultural Society and a volunteer for the Topsfield Fair. George enjoyed traveling from Alaska to Montana, and visiting the beaches of Normandy in France. He was a wild life enthusiast, a devoted husband, and a loving family man.
In addition to his wife, Patricia, he is survived by two daughters, Babette McCarthy and her husband, Jeremiah of Salisbury, and Brenda Rioux of Ipswich; five grandchildren, Nicole Pechilis, Erica Vitale, Christian Pechilis, Megan Wile and her husband, Mark and Briana McCarthy; one great-grandchild, Audrey Rose Flannigan and his faithful cat, Wyatt. He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Rioux.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of Saint Paul, 50 Union St., Hamilton, on Monday at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., North Beverly, on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. Burial will be in Hamilton Cemetery.
