Danvers — Mr. Andrew F. Garrity, Jr, of Danvers, age 79, died on December 29, 2012, after a brief illness at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, with family at his side. He was the son of the late Andrew F. Garrity Sr. and Delia (Welch) Garrity.
He was born and raised in Malden, graduating from Malden High School in 1950. He was pre-deceased by Patricia Joan (Pratt) Garrity, his wife of 36 years. Andy was a 1968 graduate of Lowell Technical Institute where he received a degree in Civil Engineering. He was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Highway Department as a Civil Engineer and Landscape Architect in Boston for 42 years. He was also an adjunct professor, teaching drafting, at Northern Essex Community College.
Andy was a member of the Essex County Auxiliary Sheriff’s Department, and the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. He enjoyed auto mechanics and woodworking and was an active 2 meter and 10 meter HAM Radio operator with the call sign N1OQX.
He is survived by his daughter, Christine Gebski and her husband Bruce Gebski, his three grandchildren Eric, Peter and Meredith, all of Haverhill, by his son Andrew F. Garrity, III and his wife, Tum Garrity and a grandchild Andrea of Bangkok, Thailand, his sister Kathy Mondi of Florida and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his brother Buddy (Francis) Reddy, and sisters Patsy Smith, Dorothy MacClaine and Leona Worth.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held from the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St. (Route 62), Danvers, Friday, January 4th, at 8:15 A.M., followed by his funeral Mass in St. Richard’s Church, Forest Street, Danvers, at 9 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart Street, Danvers. Visiting hours Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M.
