Peabody — Antonio M. “Tony” Sousa, age 60 years, beloved husband of Maria deLurdes (Barreira) Sousa, passed away peacefully at Salem Hospital on Thursday, January 17, 2013, while in the comforting presence of his family.
Born in St. Miguel Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose and Maria Sousa. He lived in Portugal for 22 years, moving to the United States settling in Peabody with his family.
Tony was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody and was an active member of the Holy Ghost Society of Peabody.
Surviving him, in addition to his loving wife with whom he shared 38 years of marriage, are his three sons, Dominic Sousa and his wife, Melissa of Peabody, Steven Sousa and his wife, Jennifer of Salem and Brandon Key of Salem. He was the loving grandfather of Jessica, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Ashton and Samantha; son in law of Maria Anna Barreira of Peabody, brother of Jose Silva of Fall River, Joao Viveiro of St. Miguel, Azores, Maria Lima of Lisbon, Portugal, Isabel Pacheco of Victoria, BC, Madalena Barreira of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Manuel A. Lima-Silva.
ARRANGEMENTS: Tony’s funeral will be held on Tuesday from the Murphy Funeral home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North Street), Salem, at 8:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody at 9 a.m. Visiting hours at the Funeral Home on Monday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
