Michael J. Mazzola, 66


NEWTON — Michael J. Mazzola, 66, of Newton, formerly of Ipswich, died Saturday, January 20, 2013, in the Mt. Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, following his lengthy illness.

Born in Boston June 5, 1946, the loving son of Michael and Margaret Mary (Fish) Mazzola of Sarasota, FL, he was a 1965 graduate of Ipswich High School. During the Vietnam War he served four years with the U.S. Air Force.

Michael was an artist and a collector. He loved architecture, traveling, antiques, violin and cooking. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

In addition to his parents he is survived by two sisters, Rosemary Daly and Betty Anne Tavano both of Florida; two brothers, Thomas Mazzola of Ipswich and Daniel Mazzola and his wife Deborah of Ipswich; two nephews; three nieces, and dearest friends, Dr. John V. Pruitt, Sherry Winternitz and Jean Frazier, all of Boston. He was the brother of the late Nicholas Mazzola formerly of Ipswich.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held 10 am Friday, January 25, 2013, in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich, followed by interment with Military Honors in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich.
