Barbara J. (Patten) Proodian

Lynn — Mrs. Barbara J. (Patten) Proodian, age 78, of Lynn, died peacefully on Friday in the Kaplan Family Hospice House. She was the beloved wife of Walter V. Proodian, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.

Born in Lynn, Barbara was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Linehan) Patten. She attended Lynn Schools, was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. Prior to her retirement, she spent many years as a bookkeeper at the Christ Child Nursery. She was later employed at Norman Wall Paper & Paint. In earlier years, she worked as a bookkeeper for John Hancock.

Barbara was an active communicant of St. Pius V Church and was a former communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, where she was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved taking her grandchildren to Disney World.

In addition to her beloved husband, Barbara leaves her two sons, Walter V. Proodian III and his wife, Georgia of Lynn and Wayne J. Proodian of Peabody. She was the sister of William Patten of New Hampshire and Dorothy Doucette of Lynn. She was the loving grandmother to Matthew, Jeffrey and Rachel Proodian, Angela Proodian, Pamela McIntyre and Gina Proodian and the loving great-grandmother to Robert Joseph McIntyre, Zackary Lucas and Michael McIntyre. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Lawrence, John, Richard and Carole Patten, Henrietta Bigos, Josephine Noone and Laura Bequette.

ARRANGEMENTS: Barbara’s funeral will be held from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends invited.
