John Salaris, 92

Bedford — John Salaris, 92, beloved husband of Georgia (Zagorites) Salaris of Peabody, passed away on January 27, 2013, at Carleton–Willard Village in Bedford, where his daughter Valerie is the administrator.

Born in Peabody, on March 21, 1920, he was the son of the late Angelo and Stamata (Mirageas) Salaris. He was raised and educated in Peabody. Following his graduation from Peabody High School, Mr. Salaris joined the United States Army Air Corps. He served in the Asiatic–Pacific Theater of Operations as a Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Mr. Salaris lived in Boston, where he owned and operated The Laconia Family Restaurant. He later returned to Peabody with his family. Before his retirement, he worked for St. Vasilios Community Center where he made many friends. Anyone who knew him could tell you that his unique sense of humor could break even the hardest.

He enjoyed his yearly vacations to Nassau, Bahamas, with his family, and playing his favorite game of golf at Paradise Island with his son-in-law. His favorite par 3 course was at Middleton Golf Course where he had several holes-in-one.

Besides his wife, Georgia, he is survived by 2 loving daughters and their spouses, Suzanne and Paul Lanzikos of Beverly Farms, and Valerie and Richard Gingras of Dracut; 2 devoted grandchildren, Tema Lanzikos and Sasha Lanzikos of Beverly Farms; a sister, Anastasia Inglis of Peabody, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Frank and Constantine Salaris.

John’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all of the staff and caregivers of Carleton–Willard Village, especially Sulaiman, John, Osseh and Gabrielle who sang “You are my sunshine” everyday. From nursing staff, to dining services staff, to facilities staff — all enriched John’s life. We are deeply grateful for their exceptional care and professionalism and loving regard for John and his family.

“To live on in the hearts of those you love is to not die”
