Salem — Mary G. (Surpitski) Duda, 90, died early Monday, February 4, 2013, in the Essex Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Beverly, following a lengthy illness. Mary was the wife of the late Eugene “Jim” Duda with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.
Born, raised and educated in Ipswich, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Victoria (Skalny) Surpitski. After working many years for General Electric in Lynn, she married Jim and in 1946 they moved to Salem Willows where she devoted herself to caring for her family and home. Mary was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church, Salem, for many years.
Surviving her is a son Richard Duda and his wife Louise of Newburyport; two sisters, Theresa Wile of Ipswich, Gertrude Mackey of Salem; a brother Alex Surpitski of Lowell; several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families and many cousins. She was also the mother of the late Michael C. Duda; sister of the late Alice Sherys, Charles Jr., John, George, Joseph and Edward Surpitski.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from the David H. Gonet Funeral Home, 22 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem, on Thursday at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church, Salem at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited.
