Francis Warren Robinson, 89

Marblehead — Francis Warren Robinson, 89, of Marblehead, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on February 5, 2013. He was the husband of the late Elsie (Rose) Robinson with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Frank R. and Magda (Robech) Robinson.

Raised and educated in Lynn, he was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1943, where he was voted “Best Dressed” in his senior year. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Pacific theater as a radioman throughout World War II and was part of the invasion as well as the post-war security force in Japan. After the war, he worked at IBM repairing mainframe computers, retiring in 1985. Franny, as he was known by friends, moved with his wife to Marblehead in 1949. He loved to work around his Marblehead homes as well as his summer cottage in Maine where he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. Always a capable carpenter, electrician, and architect, there was nothing he couldn’t make or repair, and he transformed his homes into showpieces. He also enjoyed gardening, saving seeds for next year’s crop and anticipating the bountiful harvest from his hard work.

Francis is survived by his children, Gary Robinson of California, Suzan Franks and her husband, Ric of Hernando, Fla., Marida Osborne of Marblehead, and Kristin Robinson and her husband Paul Donovan of Peabody; 11 grandchildren, Mollie Powers of California, Robinson Smith of Hudson, N.H., Jamisen Franks of Nashua, N.H., Justin Franks of Orlando, Fla., Chad, Kari, Ben, and Taylor Osborne of Marblehead, and Matthew, Hannah, and Ryan Donovan of Peabody.
