Sophie (Pappalimberis) Georgeopoulos, 94

Ipswich — Sophie (Pappalimberis) Georgeopoulos, beloved wife of the late George A. (Bucky) Georgeopoulos, died peacefully on February 6, 2013 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.

Born in Ipswich, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Marini (Zacharakis) Pappalimberis. Sophie was a wonderful homemaker, hostess and devoted mother, grandmother, sister aunt and great-aunt, the matriarch of the Pappalimberis family. She enjoyed her flower garden and cooking and baking Greek specialties for her family and friends.

She was deeply devoted to her faith as a lifelong member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. In 2011, Sophie received The Archbishop Iakovos Distinguished Service Award for 60+ years of service in the church choir. Sophie was a member of the church Melissa Society, where she once served as an officer, as well as, the Logganiko Society.

Mrs. Georgeopoulos and her husband were married on January 12, 1947, in Ipswich; they shared 64 years of marriage. She was predeceased by her husband on May 28, 2011. Mrs. Georgeopoulos is survived by her two devoted daughters, Elaine and her husband, Daniel Theriault, and Katherine Georgeopoulos with whom she lived; and her beloved granddaughter, Alyssa Sophia Theriault and her fiancé, James Gibbs, all of Ipswich.

Mrs. Georgeopoulos is also survived by three sisters, Stella Galanis and Constance Markos of Ipswich and Helen Steele of Hobe Sound, Fla., her brother, Louis Pappalimberis, and his wife, Mabel of Ipswich; and cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sophie was also predeceased by a brother, George Pappalimberis, and a sister, Olga Pappalimberis, both formerly of Ipswich.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 12 at 10 a.m. at the Assumption of the Virgin March Greek Orthodox Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Ipswich. Burial will be in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery in Ipswich. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main Street, Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Georgeopoulos’ memory to either the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 6, Ipswich, MA 01938 or to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
