Salem, MA — Cecile Delia Higgins, 85, lifelong Salem, Mass., resident, died peacefully on May 6, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones.
Mrs. Higgins was born November 22, 1927, in Salem, Mass., to George and Helena (Tardiff) Potvin.
She was educated at St. Joseph Academy in Salem, Mass., where she graduated in 1946. Upon graduation, she worked as a secretary at General Electric in Lynn, Mass., where she met her husband of 47 years, Robert Higgins. After their marriage, Cecile dedicated her life to her family and raising four children.
Cecile was a gifted singer and devoted much of her time and energy performing in musical shows and singing at weddings and funerals at various churches in the Salem area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, Raymond Potvin, Alphonse Potvin, Louis Potvin, and two sisters, Jeanette (Potvin) Haggerty and Sister Theresa Potvin.
Cecile is survived by four children, Robert Higgins and his wife, Tamara, James Higgins and his wife, Mary, Kathleen (Higgins) Augulewicz and her husband, John, and Thomas Higgins and his wife, Kimberly; nine grandchildren, Eric Higgins, Candice Barry, Kerry (Higgins) Halle and her husband, Chris, Breanna Augulewicz, Anthony Higgins, Erin Augulewicz, Adam Augulewicz, Brandon Higgins, Trevor Higgins; and two great-grandchildren, Emma Barry and Zoe Barry.
ARRANGEMENTS: Cecile’s funeral will be held from the David H. Gonet Funeral Home, 22 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem, on Friday at 12 p.m., followed by her funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody/Salem line, at 1 p.m. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
