Sylvia Russell Westcott, 90

Salem — Sylvia Russell Westcott, age 90, wife of the late Charles M. Westcott of Salem, formerly of the Tannery in Peabody, died Saturday in the Lafayette Nursing Home.

Born in Dudley, Mass., the daughter of the late Clarence and Inez (Forbes) Fletcher, she attended local schools. Following her high school graduation, she attended Simmons College in Boston until her first husband started a business in microfilm. It was at that time they moved to Scituate, where they raised their family.

In the mid-1960s, she and her second husband relocated to Toronto, Canada, where she became an administrative assistant in the local university. Upon her return to the States she continued her work for the Pembroke, Mass., school system.

She eventually moved to Salem, where she spent her retirement enjoying her family who lived in Salem Willows. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing the piano.

Mrs. Westcott is survived by two children, Fletcher and his wife, Kathleen Hall, of Salem, and retired Brigham and Woman’s Hospital Chaplin Deborah Hall Duffee, of Marblehead; four grandchildren, Gabrielle Duffee, Alexander Duffee, Caroline Hall, and Benjamin Hall; four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: A gathering of relatives and friends will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., corner of North Street, Salem, to be followed by a Celebration of Mrs. Westcott’s Life by her daughter, Deborah Hall Duffee, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Plummer Home for Boys, 37 Winter Island Road, Salem, MA 01970.
