Danvers, MA — Alberta M. Nigro, formerly of Stoneham, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2013, with her family by her side at Beverly Hospital, after a very brief illness.
She was born in Whitefield, N.H., on November 7, 1926, and was the daughter of the late John and Chiarina (Valente) Nigro. She was a graduate of Whitefield High School, the Mary Hitchcock (Dartmouth) School of Nursing and Boston University.
She was assistant vice president of Nursing at Winchester Hospital from 1969 to 1988. Prior to Winchester Hospital, she was pediatric supervisor at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Following her retirement, Berta traveled extensively, including trips to mainland China, Alaska, Morocco, and Europe. She later volunteered at Winchester Hospital, the Stoneham Senior Center and Stoneham Library.
Survivors include her sister, Grace Degan of Danvers; and her nephew, Sean Degan, of Groveland. She was predeceased by her brother, Nicholas Nigro, and sister, Angeline Nigro.
ARRANGEMENTS: At Ms. Nigro’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant Street, Danvers, on Wednesday, July 17, at 11: a.m. Burial will be at a later date at St. Matthew’s Cemetery, Whitefield.
