Ipswich — Helen (Kallas) Kalafatas, 90, of Ipswich, formerly of Boston and Arlington, died Friday, July 26, 2013.
She was the wife of the late Nicholas J. Kalafatas, who died in May 1980.
Born and raised in Boston, she was the daughter of the late John and Stella Kallas. She attended the Boston schools and graduated from The Modern School of Applied Art in Boston in 1942.
During World War II, she worked as a draftswoman for Radiation Laboratory at M.I.T.
She was predeceased by her son, John Kalafatas; and her three brothers, James, William and Peter Kallas.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Irene Baer and husband, Arthur, Diane Bourque and husband, Joseph, all of Ipswich; her daughter-in-law, Maureen Kalafatas of North Reading; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Lela Kallas, Julie Kallas and Becca Bowers; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of Ipswich.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 30, at 10 a.m. at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. There will be no public visiting hours.
