Beverly — Victor S. Phillips, 87, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at his home. He was the devoted husband of the late Helen (Murphy) Phillips.
Born in Lynn on November 6, 1926, he was the son of the late Joseph and Adela (Pacewicz) Filipowicz. He had resided in Lynn for many years before moving to Beverly 60 years ago. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served as an Aviation Radioman 3rd Class, before being honorably discharged in 1945.
Victor was employed as a foreman with the New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. for over 30 years, before his retirement in 1981.
He loved to spend his free time fishing in the waters of Maine and gardening at his home, providing wonderful vegetables for his family.
He is survived by his three daughters, Gail Phillips of Tucson, Ariz., Jan Doak of Palm Coast, Fla., and Nancy Nichols and her husband, Joe, of Beverly; his son, John Phillips of Beverly; four grandchildren, Celeste Hernandez and her husband, Julio, of Greenville, S.C., Sarah Carter of Nantucket, and Joseph and Hayley Nichols, both of Beverly; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Joseph and Ruth Filipowicz of Wilmington, Mass., and Lynne Filipowicz of Wilmington, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, Charles Filipowicz.
He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held on Saturday, in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
