Helen W. Chalas


Marblehead — Helen W. Chalas, 88, of Marblehead, Mass., died May 21, 2014.

Born in Newton, N.J., on October 7, 1925, she was the daughter of Fred and Helen (Strack) Wahl. In her early years, she worked as a secretary at the Amoskeag-Lawrence Mills. Afterward, she spent her life as a devoted homemaker. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Peabody.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband. Her favorite pastime was cooking and entertaining for family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She was married 56 years to Leonidas “Leo” V. Chalas, who died in 2013. She was also predeceased by brother, Robert F. Wahl.

Family members include her twin brother, Harold G. Wahl of Webster, N.Y.; several niece and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours are Wednesday, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, Manchester, N.H. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 11 a.m.

Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester.
