Danvers — Mrs. Mary A. (Ruma) Claar, 85, of Danvers, beloved wife of Charles E. Claar Jr., died Thursday, June 19, at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by her family.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Giacomo and Rosaria (Marino) Ruma. She was raised and educated in Boston, and was a graduate of Somerville High School. She continued her education earning her bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater State College.
Mrs. Claar had been employed as a special education teacher in the Gloucester School System. She taught at the Beeman School and the Fuller School, both in Gloucester, until the time of her retirement.
Mrs. Claar and her husband were avid square dancers, having been members of the former Wenham Shindiggers. A longtime resident of the city of Beverly, Mary and her husband moved to Danvers 10 years ago. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, who will be deeply missed.
In addition to her loving husband of 58 years, Mary is survived by her daughter, Marianne Claar of Boston; her son, Charles E. Claar III of Salem; her grandchildren, Chad Claar and Andi-Lee Claar; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., Route 62, Danvers, on Wednesday, June 25, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be in Wadsworth Cemetery, Danvers.
