Haverhill — Retired Massachusetts State Police Officer Alton P. Goodale, 79, of Haverhill, died on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at his home.
Born in Middleton, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mildred (Godfrey) Goodale. He graduated from Danvers High School, Class of 1952.
For 10 years Alton served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard. In 1962, he graduated from the Massachusetts State Police Academy in Framingham. Alton served with seven different troops and retired from Topsfield in 1982.
He was a member of the Retired Massachusetts Troopers Association and of the N.R.A. A mason, Alton was a member of Amity-Mosaic Lodge A.F.&A.M.
He leaves his wife, Mary Amy (Robbins) Goodale; three daughters, Linda Furth of Beverly, Donna Cavallo and her husband, Robert, of Martha’s Vineyard, and Beth MacRae and her husband, Ed, of Norwell; a stepdaughter, Wendy Clark of Roanoke, W.V.; a brother, Gordon Goodale of Orlando, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late James, Richard and Paul Goodale.
ARRANGEMENTS: His memorial funeral service will be held on Wednesday, at 10 a.m., in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. A memorial visitation will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m.
