Beverly — Roy F. Gelineau Sr., 92, beloved husband of the late Eileen A. (Malette) Gelineau, died Sunday April 28, 2013, at home surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Clarence A. and Helen M. (Kennedy) Gelineau.
Mr Gelineau served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army Air Corp and was very proud of the numerous honors he was awarded for his service. He enlisted just 20 days following Pearl Harbor and served his country throughout the war as a B24 flight specialist. He enjoyed many reunions with his fellow servicemen as a member of the Jolly Rogers 90th Bomb Group.
Mr. Gelineau had been employed for many years as a postal worker in Beverly and Lynn until the time of his retirement in 1982. He was the past President of the Postal Workers Unions of Beverly and Lynn. Following his retirement, he volunteered as a mediator in the Salem District Court.
A longtime resident of Beverly, he was a member of the Vittori Rocci Post in Beverly, and VFW Post 1524 in Salem. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. An avid horseman, he was a member of the Eastern Draft Horse Association. He loved music, especially jazz, and sang in the Beverly Seniors Choir. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving him are three daughters, Jeanne Tracey of Danvers, Elaine Moffett and her husband, Robert, of Beverly, and Susan Nardone and her husband, Stephen, of Hollis, N.H.; four sons, Roy Gelineau Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Beverly, Ronald Gelineau and his wife, Melanie, of Londonderry, N.H., David Gelineau and his wife, Linda, of Beverly, and Paul Gelineau and his wife, Ann, of Amesbury; 17 grandchildren, John Tracey and his wife, Mandy, Craig Moffett, Sarah Sarver and her husband, Scot, Benjamin, Chelsea, Nathaniel and Zachary Nardone, Matthew Gelineau and his fiancé, Ashley Lojko, Amy Gelineau, Katelyn Gelineau and her fiancé, Jordan Marshall, Garrett and Regan Gelineau, Lindsey Colotti and her husband, Michael, Michael Gelineau, Christopher Gelineau and his fiancé, Bonnie Coholan, and Jill and Jennifer Gelineau; seven great- grandchildren, Jessica, Joseph, Jake, Maggie, Emma, Brayden and Michaela; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Doris Tierney and father-in-law of the late John Tracey Jr.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, 111 New Balch St., Beverly, on Friday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell – Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, North Beverly, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
