Berta Helena Benson Bixby

Topsfield — Berta Helena Benson Bixby of Topsfield, formerly a longtime resident of Wenham, died at her home in the company of her loving family on May 16, 2013. She was the wife of the late Frank E. Bixby, MD.

Mrs. Bixby was born and raised in Rye, N.Y., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nils B. Benson and the sister of the late Anne Austin and Carl Benson.

She also enjoyed travel. Her most memorable and heartwarming trip was to Sweden with her family. While there, she finally was able to meet her many relatives and visited the homes in which her parents were raised.

Mrs. Bixby was also a volunteer at Children’s Hospital in Boston. The time spent visiting and doing projects with the children was enjoyable and rewarding in so many ways.

Mrs. Bixby was the much loved mother of four daughters, Judith of Topsfield, Barbara of New York, Nancy Linsley and her husband, Keyes, of Topsfield, and Pamela Coolidge and her husband, Timothy, of Ipswich. She was the cherished grandmother of Joshua Abrams, John and Peter Linsley and Timmy Coolidge.

She is also survived by her brother, Nils E. Benson and his wife, Audrey, of Darien, Conn., and several nieces and nephews.
