Essex — Charles Robert Del Torchio Sr., 91, born in Gloucester, son of the late Charles and Blanche (Anstess) Del Torchio and husband of Seraphina (Chianciola) Del Torchio. Bob graduated from GHS in 1939, where he was a captain in the ROTC, and won many awards and medals on Field Day that year. Following graduation from BU in journalism, Bob joined the Merchant Marines during World War II and served in the European Theatre. He later returned to Gloucester where he founded Cape Ann Seafoods. He later became the manager of the New England Fish Company of Seattle, Washington, managing the East Coast Fresh Seafood operations and also the Woods Harbor Fisheries operations out of Nova Scotia until his retirement. However, retirement was short lived since Bob then went into selling real estate for Essex Realty. Bob was a true outdoorsman who loved working in his vegetable and flower gardens. His passion was blueberry picking in Dogtown Common until he was in his eighties. Bob was a member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge for 65 years and served as a member of the Gloucester Community Fish Pier Association for many years.
Married for 64 years, Bob and Sera have two children, C. Robert Del Torchio Jr. of Boxford and Darryl Ann Del Torchio of Wenham. Bob loved his son-in-law John “Jack” Motzi and daughter-in-law, Deechie (Cody) Del Torchio. Bob’s three grandchildren are Amy Anastasi, wife of Joseph Anastasi, Sarah Terranova, wife of Michael Terranova and Charles Del Torchio, husband of Kara (Pulverent) Del Torchio; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha, Ruby and Evelyn Anastasi, Lila and Marco Terranova and Mia and Emma Del Torchio.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, on Wednesday, February 27, at 11 am. The service will be conducted by Bob’s good friend, the Rev. Charles Moore of Chester, VA. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
