Amy Nurse, 97


Salem — Amy Nurse, RN, 97, of Salem, formerly of Everett, died on Sunday, November 24, 2013, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House.

Born in Everett, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Amy Bradford (Jarvis) Nurse. She was raised and educated in Everett, and continued her education to become a registered nurse at North Shore Children’s Hospital, where she took an active role in nurse training, as well as supervisory responsibilities. In 1941, during World War II, Miss Nurse joined the U.S. Army, and was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of operation . Upon her discharge, she continued her career with North Shore Medical Center until her retirement. She was also involved with the former thrift shop on Lynde Street in Salem for several years.

She is survived by her cousins and friends.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held on Friday, November 29, at 11 a.m., in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, corner of North Street, Salem. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation will be prior to the funeral, from 10 to 11 a.m., in the funeral home. Interment will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
