Mrs. Carolyn Jane (Glidden) Gibbs, 74, formerly of Beverly, wife of the late Alfred Walker Gibbs, died late Friday evening in the Martin Memorial Medical Center, Stuart, Florida.
Born in Beverly, daughter of the late Roger I. and Ethel J. (Corning) Glidden, she was raised and educated in Beverly and was a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1956. She continued her education at the Essex Agricultural and Technical School where she received her degree in nursing.
A dedicated and caring person, Mrs. Gibbs was employed at Beverly Hospital for many years and also did private duty nursing for many families on the North Shore. Prior to her retirement, Carolyn also worked for the MA Department of Social Services.
A longtime resident of Beverly, Carolyn was a “snowbird,” splitting her time between MA and Stuart, FL, before moving there permanently in 2008 to be closer to her family. She could often be seen out walking, enjoying one of her passions. She also loved to travel, dance and attend exercise classes. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she will be greatly missed not only by her loving family, but by the many people she touched over the years.
Mrs. Gibbs is survived by her daughters Diane Ryan and her husband Daniel, and Linda Falco and her late husband Michael, all of Stuart, FL, her adoring grandchildren Stephanie and Paige Ryan; Sarah, Hailey and Alex King; Bradley, Colleen and Allison Falco; sisters Nancy (Pete) Madden of Middleton, Dorothy (Bob) Drinkwater of Beverly, brothers Roy (Carmen) Glidden of Beverly and John (Philip) Glidden of Reading; sister-in-law Charlotte Glidden of Beverly, her dear companion of many years Everett Palmer of Port St. Lucie, FL, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Jeffery King and her brother Roger Glidden.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St. (Rte. 62), Danvers, Friday, from 4 to 8 P.M. Her funeral service will be held in the Middleton Congregational Church, Maple St., Middleton, Saturday, March 31st, at noon. Burial following in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
