SALEM — Mrs. Marcelina (Gomez) Vasquez, 75, of Salem, beloved wife of Rigoberto Vasquez, died Tuesday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by her family.
Born in the Dominican Republic, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Martilda (Antigua) Gomez. She was raised and educated in the Dominican Republic. She immigrated to the United State in 2003 and has since resided in Salem.
For many years, Marcelina was employed as a kindergarten teacher in the Dominican Republic until the time of her retirement.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Marcelina was devoted to her family and God. She enjoyed spending her time with her family, painting, walking, cooking, knitting and completing crossword puzzles. Above all else she was dedicated to her family and her grandchildren and enjoyed reading the word of the lord and praying. She was a very devout Christian. Marcelina's family wanted to thank the caregivers at the Kaplan Family Hospice house for their care to Marcelina and her family during her final days.
In addition to her husband of 48 years, Marcelina is survived by her children, Glenys Vasquez of Salem, Elena Vasquez of Salem, Edwin Vasquez of the Dominican Republic and Yacell Lugo of Salem, her grandchildren, Edwin, Eric and Edward Vasquez and their mother Fanny, Glen and Aileen Perez and Roniele and Reny De LA Cruz, many sisters and brothers including her special sister, Juana Gomez of Salem, many cousins including her special cousin Estella Gutierrez and many nieces and nephews and a special son-in-law Rony.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her Funeral Mass will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd., Salem, Friday, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours in The O’Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Square (at Salem Common), Salem, Thursday from 5 to 7 P.M.
