James C. Maheras, 87

Peabody — James C. “Jim” Maheras, 87, devoted husband of Mary (Bezemes) Maheras of Peabody, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 3, 2014.

Jim was born on September 28, 1926, in Ayios Petros, Greece, son of the late Constantine and Lucretia (Dais) Maheras. He was raised and educated in Greece and due to the fact that he was born with an American Citizenship, he fought in the Greek Resistance and was honorably discharged following WWII. In 1946 he came to the United States making his home in Newton, and in 1950 he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served until being honorably discharged on October 15, 1952.

Jim met his wife of 58 years while working as a manager at the BelAire Diner in Peabody, and then went on to own and operate the Jerry Jingle Restaurant in Melrose for over three decades. After retirement, his days were filled with cooking, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family. His greatest joy was his grandchildren whom he cherished. Those who knew him best will remember him as a champion for the underdog. Jim was a member of several clubs, The Order of Ahepa, The St. Vasilios Men’s Club and the Masonic Temple in Melrose.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by his 3 daughters and their spouses, Lucretia and Michael Bresnahan, Christina and Joseph Votto, and Matina and Stephen Cassidy, all of Peabody; 6 grandchildren, Maria Bresnahan, Joseph Votto, Demetra Votto, Mary Votto, Demetri Cassidy and Zoe Cassidy, all of Peabody; a niece, Marina Angelopoulos of Chicago; and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Matina Mousoutis of Greece.

ARRANGEMENTS: His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, April 7, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a service at 10 a.m. at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody.     Brockton, MA — Anne L. (Pasakarnis) O’Donnell, 83, of Brockton, died August 16, 2014, at home, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Dr. Terrence P. O’Donnell; daughter of the late Francis and Louise (Sheparauskas) Pasakarnis; and sister of the late John and Albert Pasakarnis. Born and raised in Brockton, she was a 1949 graduate of Brockton High School. She worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years, retiring in 1990. After her retirement, she and her beloved husband spent many happy years in California with family. After the passing of her husband, she became a volunteer. She volunteered at both Brockton Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital for many years. Anne was the loving mother of Terrence Jr. and his wife, Meredith, of West Roxbury, Patricia Labrecque of Danvers, Gregory and his wife, Nelia, of Somerset and Susan Allsopp of Brockton; cherished grandmother of Nicole Labrecque and her husband, Nathaniel Blue, Lori Labrecque, Patrick O’Donnell, Alfred Allsopp IV, Caroline O’Donnell, and John Allsopp. Anne’s family would like to express their appreciation to all those who were helpful to their mother during her final days.

She was the loving wife of 52 years to Nicholas A. Chihlas. She was born in Bronx, N.Y., on April 17, 1941,and was the daughter of the late Theodore and Constance (Vafeas) Arabatzis. She was raised and educated there, graduating from New York University in 1962. She had resided in Danvers for the past 41 years.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Martha Pelletier and her husband, Dennis of Byfield and Allyson Sweeney of Hamilton; his longtime girlfriend, Jane Lafata of Gloucester; his two nieces, Amy Timpano and her husband, Scott of Beacon, N.Y. and Leah Pelletier of Beverly, his uncle, Robert Caverly and his wife, Dorothy of Mountain Grove, Mo.; several cousins and his close friend, Dana Wood and his wife, Sue of Claremont, N.H., and many close friends.
