Salem — Peter R. Nicholson, 69, of Salem died Friday, October 12, 2012, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, following a lengthy battle with brain cancer. He was the loving husband of Stephanie (Bozek) Nicholson, with whom he shared 36 years of marriage.
Born and educated in Lynn, he was the son of the late William and Mona (Folkes) Nicholson and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School. After graduation, Peter enlisted into the United States Navy where he proudly served his country as a Seabee, constructing bridges and roads in Vietnam. Peter received the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in 1966. A man of many talents, Peter first prospered in the construction industry, then as a maintenance machinist for Raytheon for several years and prior to his retirement operated heavy equipment for Northeast Nursery.
Peter enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Raytheon bowling team for several years. He also enjoyed skeet shooting and playing horseshoes with his brother during his visits to Florida.
Surviving him, in addition to his wife Stephanie, are three brothers, James Nicholson and his wife Anne of Amesbury, Paul Nicholson and his wife Marilyn of Duncan, S.C., John Nicholson of Okeechobee, Fla.; three sisters, Doris Doward and her husband Robert of Salem, Patsy Shamberger and her husband George of New Hampshire, Sandra Nicholson of New Hampshire, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also the brother of the late William Nicholson, Jr., George Nicholson, Robert Nicholson and Mona Lothrop.
ARRANGEMENTS: A visitation will be held in the David H. Gonet Funeral Home, 22 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem, on Monday (Today) from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
