Marbelhead, MA — Leonidas V. Chalas, 90, of Marblehead, Mass., passed away on Friday, September 20, following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Leo was born in Manchester, N.H., on May 11, 1923, and was the son of Vasilios and Eugenia (Argeropoulos) Chalas. He attended area schools and obtained an associate’s degree in business. In 1942, Leo was called to duty with United States Army, and proudly served his country during WWII. He was stationed in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1945. Leo was married in 1956, and spent his working years as vice president of accounting and finance with Stocker & Yale.
Leo was a loving, caring, unselfish man, whose attributes are too numerous to count. He had a deep sense of family and enjoyed traveling with his wife.
Leo is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen (Wahl) Chalas; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his nine brothers and sisters.
ARRANGEMENTS: The family will receive visitors at 10 a.m., on Tuesday September 24, at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester. His Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 111 Island Pond Road, Manchester, N.H. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
