Ipswich — Magdaline (Petrides) Caramanis, 104, wife of the late John K. Caramanis, died Friday evening, October 11, 2013, in the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. Born in Platanos, Turkey on January 30, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Petros and Eleni Petrides.
Mrs. Caramanis was a long-standing member of the Greek Orthodox Church of Arlington. She was employed as a seamstress in various garment manufacturing companies in the Boston area. She was predeceased by her husband, John in 1992.
Mrs. Caramanis is survived by her 3 children and their spouses, Gary J. and Valerie Caramanis of Tewksbury, Kathleen and Fr. John Govostes of Ipswich, Ernie P. and Mary Ellen Caramanis of Salem, NH; her 7 grandchildren, John G. Caramanis, Perry Caramanis, John N. Govostes, William Toppi, Gary Toppi, Russell Toppi and David Toppi, and her 3 great-grandchildren, Ella Toppi, Eden Toppi and Melina Toppi. She is also survived by her sister, Stella Vassel of Arlington Heights, IL. Mrs. Caramanis was also predeceased by her daughter, Mary H. Toppi of Dennis and her granddaughter, Christina Govostes.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 19th at 10:00 A.M. at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 70 Medford Street, Arlington. There will be no visiting hours.
