Peabody, MA — Ismini (Ninios) Soteropoulos, wife of the late Dimitrios Soteropoulos with whom she shared 60 years of marriage, passed away after a brief illness at IASO General Hospital in Athens, Greece, in the presence of her loving children on October 28, 2013.
Ismini was born in Ammos, Messinia, Greece, to Panagiotis and Olga (Andriopoulos) Ninios in 1931.
While in Greece, she worked as a seamstress and trained countless young women that apprenticed under her to learn that profession. In 1985, Ismini, along with her husband, Dimitrios, immigrated to Peabody to join three of their children.
She continued to work as a seamstress in the United States and in 1991, together with her business partner, Anna Veres, opened Fashion Tailoring in Beverly, MA. In 1994, in their 60s, she and her husband became American citizens, while continuing to enjoy annual trips to their home in Eva, Messinia, Greece.
Ismini was an excellent seamstress, homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by four children, Joanne Venios and her husband, Christy, of Peabody, Theodore Soteropoulos and his wife, Pam, of Salem, Takis Soteropoulos and his wife, Paula, of Peabody and Eleni Dimitriou and her husband, Tasos, of Oropos, Greece; seven grandchildren, Speros Venios of Peabody, Dina Kalaitzidis and her husband, Demetrios, of Peabody, Ismini Soteropoulos of Salem, Dimitri Soteropoulos of Salem, Giannis and Maria Dimitriou of Oropos, Greece and Alexia Soteropoulos of Peabody; two great-grandchildren, Ioanna and Christos Kalaitzidis of Peabody; two sisters, Efstathia Kaliva and Vasiliki Dedousi of Greece; a sister-in-law, Helen Viel and her husband, Albert, of Peabody; and a brother-in-law, Peter Soteropoulos of Peabody. She was predeceased by her brother, Leonidas Ninios of Athens, Greece.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services took place at the Holy Taxichare Greek Orthodox Church followed by her burial in Eva, Messinia Greece.
