John R. Madden, 70


Ipswich — John R. Madden, 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Ipswich on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. Born in Lynn on March 28, 1943, he was the son of the late William J. and Dorothy Mae (Jones) Madden.

John had been a resident of Ipswich since 1971. He owned the former Omni Electric and Lighting Store on Route 1 in Ipswich. Every year he donated money to the school he attended in Lynn, St. Marys. He was ranked #1 in crossword puzzles. John donated time, money and effort to anything that helped the well-being of anyone who was in need. Everybody who knew John knew how much he loved the town of Ipswich and everyone in it.

John is survived by his son, Jonathan W. Madden of Ipswich and his daughter, Jennifer J. Madden of Swampscott; 3 grandchildren, Mackenzie, Christian and Bridget. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Joanne Adamo of Salem and Alice Odachowski of Lynnfield; 1 brother, James Madden of Las Vegas, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews. John was also predeceased by 1 sister, Dorothy Madden formerly of Lynn; 1 brother, William J. Madden formerly of Stoughton and 2 aunts, Alice McArdle formerly of Lynn and Sr. Joan Marie formerly of Kentucky.

ARRANGEMENTS: Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be Sunday, September 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main St., Ipswich, relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
