Marblehead, MA — Lois A. Genis, age 81, passed away on April 27. She was the wife of Daniel Genis with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn on July 25, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Hildur (Anderson) Bratt. She graduated from Lynn Classical High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., and her master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
Mrs. Genis was a music teacher and taught several levels of school from elementary to college. Most of her teaching years were spent as lead music teacher in the Danvers School System. She also taught for the German government in Berlin, Germany.
She was an accomplished organist and choir director and held positions at various churches on the North Shore of Boston chiefly at Old North Church in Marblehead, and Clifton Lutheran Church, also in Marblehead.
Mrs. Genis is survived by her husband, Daniel and her daughter, Karin Genis and her husband, David Dumais, of Brooklyn; and her son Daniel and his wife, Carol, of Chestnut Hill, and her daughter, Katherine and her husband, Ben Page, of Marblehead. She also leaves six grandchildren. She was predeceased in death by three brothers, Richard Bratt, formerly of Holden, Robert Bratt, formerly of Beverly, and Carl Bratt, formerly of Danvers.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 1 at 11 a.m. at Clifton Lutheran Church, 150 Humphrey St. Marblehead. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the calling hours from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St. Salem, MA.
