David Trask

Sprucehead, ME — David E. Trask, son of the late Harry E. and Jean R. (Walker) Trask died at home on April 27, after an almost two-year battle with Non-Hodgkins Lyphoma. David was born November 3, 1941, in Salem, Mass. and grew up in Boxford, Mass., attending local schools. He was a graduate of Topsfield High School and the Whittemore School of Business at the University of New Hampshire. He married Virginia R. Durkee, another graduate of Topsfield High School, in 1963. They made their home in Boxford where they raised their two daughters Ellen and Laura. While living in Boxford, Dave served on the Conservation Commission and Planning Board.

Most of his years of employment were spent in Peabody, Mass., where he worked for the Warren Five Cents Savings Bank and the George Peabody Co-operative Bank. Dave and Ginny moved to Essex in 1996 as Dave was then employed by the Granite Savings Bank in Rockport, Mass., as vice-president and mortgage officer. While living in Essex, Dave served on the Board of Assessors.

Dave was also a member of the Greater Lynn Photographic Association. He became involved in photography in part because of his interest in the outdoors and won numerous awards for his nature photography. He traveled to many beautiful locations to pursue this interest including Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons; Churchill, Manitoba; Kenya; Ireland; the American Southwest; his favorite, Alaska and Ginny’s favorite, St. Martin. Dave also had a lifelong interest in railroads and built an extensive HO gauge model train layout in their home in Spruce Head. Yearly vacations were usually spent somewhere on the coast of Maine, so it was an easy decision to make their retirement home there when Dave retired in 2006.

In addition to Ginny, his wife of almost 50 years, Dave is survived by daughter, Ellen Ryder of Greene, Maine, and her companion, Michael Murray; and daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Ed Thibeault; and grandson, Hayden Thibeault of Lincolnville, Maine; brother-in-law, Paul Durkee and his wife, Donna of East Dennis, Mass.; several cousins in the U.S. and Canada. He was predeceased by sister-in-law, Janet McMorran and her husband, Peter formerly of Exeter, N.H. and Port Aransis, Texas.

ARRANGEMENTS: At Dave’s request, a private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts in his memory may be sent to the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME, 04841; Georges River Land Trust, 8 N. Main St., Ste. 200, Rockland, ME, 04841; or the Nature Conservancy.
