William (Bill) Walter Reiley died at home in Alfred, Maine on Feb. 5, 2012, with many family members at his bedside and in the loving thoughts of others.
Bill was born on September 16, 1922, in Springhill, Nova Scotia, Canada to Greta Tower and William Andrew Reiley.His father died in 1924 and his mother moved to Salem, MA. She married Bertram O’Brien in 1929.
After graduating from Salem High School in 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He spent 18 months as a German prisoner of war and was awarded a certificate of honor from the American Legion in 2011.
He married Barbara Buxton June 5, 1950. They had three children. Bill worked for United Shoe Machinery and the Bailey Company in MA. He later owned: the Sea Breeze Motel in Hampton NH, Marty’s General Store in New Durham NH and Norgetown Laundry and Dry Cleaners in Sanford, ME.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his father, William Andrew Reiley, his mother, Greta Reiley, his step-father, Bertram O’Brien and his sister, Phyllis LeBlanc.
He is survived by his brother, Fred (Marie), sisters, Marion Dill and Pat Tristram, daughters, Nancy Kramer (David);Kathleen Hartsel and son, William Andrew Reiley (Stacey); grandchildren: William Reiley (Brandee); Greta Price (David); Ben Kramer; Monika, Nina and Rosalind Hartsel; and great grandchildren, Camden and Kaylen Reiley and Luke, Sarah, Mark and Anna Price.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be held at the Campbell-Lee, Moody Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly (North Beverly Location) on Thursday from 12:30- 1:00 P.M. A Funeral Service will follow in the Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
